This work explores the theme of hands and tools highlighting the actions involved in making.
Focusing on cutting I made a collection of functionless scissors that are unable to cut, break or divide. Their shapes abstracted; elongated, flimsy, sharp less and fragmented they distance the hand from their working parts. Made by hand they embody the craftsmanship they long to sustain. Scissors are extensions of hands but the hand is “the tool of all tools”. By making functionless tools I point out the regression of the hand and what is lost through mechanization and the pressing of buttons.
